Five archipelagos
French Polynesia consists of five archipelagos separated: the archipelagos of Society, Tuamotu, Gambier, Marquisas and Austral. It is located in the South Pacific, an area equal to the size of Europe. It is composed of 118 islands inhabited by 260 000 polynesians. The Faa'a International Airport is located on the main island Tahiti. It is serviced primarily by the local company Air Tahiti Nui, Air France and Air New Zealand. Air Tahiti provides flights between islands. Its capital Papeete is located on the main island Tahiti. It has it's own government but it is still attached the France.
